The Financial and legal status check section in a carVertical report provides information on any financial or legal issues associated with the vehicle. This can include financial restrictions like leases and legal information, such as passed/failed technical inspection or the car's designation as “scrapped.”
This section is divided into two parts – Outstanding finance and Legal. If any records are found in these areas, a yellow warning icon will appear next to the Financial and legal status check card at the top of the report.
The Outstanding finance part of this section may include information about:
In the Legal part of the section, you can find details on whether the vehicle:
Each record contains an event type, its status (Record found, No record found, Passed [technical inspection]), the date and country where the event was recorded, and a short explanation.
The Insurance tile in the Financial and legal status check section lets you see whether a car is currently insured and view coverage validity dates (if available). Beyond legal risks, a lack of insurance may also indicate potential issues — such as registration problems or unresolved damage — so it’s important to check this before buying a car.
If the car isn’t currently insured, you will see a yellow warning icon along with the date of the last recorded policy, depending on data availability.
Note: If you don’t find any insurance information, that doesn’t necessarily mean the car is uninsured. It simply means we couldn’t find the record in our partner databases, and it’s worth asking the seller directly.
The information included in the report depends on data availability. If some of the information listed above is missing from this section (or it shows only the Financial or only the Legal part), it means that no matching records were found in the official databases, or that the vehicle has no restrictions.
Financial restrictions indicate any debts or liens tied to a used car, impacting ownership transfer and financial liability. Unresolved restrictions can prevent registration, lead to repossession risks, or add costs. The legal status provides assurance that a used car can be driven on public roads and complies with current regulations.
To avoid legal, safety, and registration issues, it is essential to check whether the car is debt-free, has passed technical inspections, avoid vehicles that have been “scrapped,” and ensure that the vehicle has completed all import/export procedures.
