The EV battery and range section provides information about an electric vehicle's battery capacity, estimated range, and charging characteristics. It is designed to help you better understand how a particular EV may fit into your everyday life.
Since different trims can have different battery sizes and specifications, you may be asked to select the correct trim so we can provide more accurate EV data.
The EV battery and range section consists of four parts: new battery usable capacity, range overview, an interactive map, and charging characteristics such as charging time and costs.
New battery capacity is measured in kilowatt-hours (kWh) and represents the amount of usable energy stored in the battery when the vehicle is new.
Alongside this value, you'll also see the full battery capacity and the manufacturer's estimated driving range.
The range shown in the report is based on manufacturer specifications for a new vehicle. Actual range may be lower for used vehicles due to battery degradation, so use it as a reference point and compare it with available battery health data (on average, batteries lose 1-3% of capacity annually, with the most significant drop typically occurring in the first year).
Real-world EV range can vary depending on factors such as weather conditions, driving style, terrain, and battery health.
To make these differences clearer, the report provides estimates for both summer and winter conditions, as well as for city and highway driving.
The interactive range map helps visualize how far a vehicle may travel on a full charge (100%).
Enter a departure location and select weather conditions to view an estimated driving radius based on the vehicle's battery specifications and range estimates. On the interactive map, lighter blue shaded areas represent lower remaining battery charge – the lighter the shade, the lower the battery level.
Map estimates are based on a new battery and should be treated as reference values.
The report also includes estimated charging information, such as:
Charging time and cost estimates are based on manufacturer specifications and average electricity rates in your region.
The EV battery and range section helps you look beyond manufacturer specifications. It shows how range may vary in different conditions (summer vs. winter, city vs. highway driving), how far the vehicle can travel on a single charge, how long charging may take, and what charging is likely to cost. This can help you compare EVs and decide whether a particular model suits your daily driving needs.
