On paper, an electric vehicle might promise hundreds of kilometers of worry-free driving. Real-world range, however, is often different, as the distance you can travel generally depends on various factors, including weather conditions and driving style.

To help you better understand how an EV you’re considering will fit into your everyday life, we’ve launched a powerful new addition to our vehicle reportsEV battery and range section. This is the first version of the feature, with more improvements already on the way.

What you’ll find in the new EV section

The new EV battery and range section is designed to answer some of the most common questions EV buyers have before making a purchase.

New battery usable capacity

In EVs, battery capacity is equivalent to a fuel tank's size. While it’s not the only factor affecting the EV range, typically, the more usable energy it has, the farther the car can travel on a single charge.

Since it’s one of the key questions for EV buyers, the battery capacity and the car’s driving range are what you’ll see at the top of this new section.

💡Important note:

The range shown in the report is based on manufacturer specifications for a new vehicle. Use it as a reference point to compare against current battery health data (on average, batteries lose 1-3% of capacity annually, with the most significant drop typically occurring in the first year).

Seasonal range overview

Colder temperatures can reduce battery efficiency and increase energy consumption, so your driving range may decrease significantly in winter. Driving style is important too, as EV batteries generally perform better in city traffic than on highways.

To help you set realistic expectations for everyday use, the Range overview part of the EV section will include estimates for these exact conditions.

Interactive range map

Seeing battery capacity or estimated travel distance is one thing, but visualizing how far that can actually take you is another. Enter our interactive map.

Once you type in your departure location and choose the current weather conditions, you’ll see how far the car can drive on a 100% charge. Keep in mind that the estimate is based on a new battery, so the actual range may be slightly lower.

Charging information and costs

Charging costs can have a significant impact on the overall cost of EV ownership – for some, they’re one of the key reasons to switch from an internal combustion engine vehicle.

The final part of the EV battery and range section will show you how much you’ll likely have to pay for a full charge, the estimated cost per 100 kilometers (based on average electricity rates in your region), and how long charging may take using both AC and DC fast charging.

Try the new EV battery and range section in your next report

The next time you're checking an electric vehicle, explore the new EV battery and range section and see what driving it daily might actually look like.

At the same time, battery and range data are only part of the picture. Previous accidents, flood damage, and other issues can have a big impact on an EV's safety, value, and long-term reliability, so make sure to carefully review the rest of the vehicle history data.

Thinking about buying an EV?

The battery is only one part of an EV. A vehicle history report can help you see the bigger picture.
